Witty sci-fi shows to stream

TV shows are a great way to expand on sci-fi stories since every episode gives a chance for worldbuilding. Whether animated or live-action, if it’s a parody or an original story, sci-fi gives us a glimpse of what the could have been or will be with technological advances. This list contains four sci-fi shows that are full of gadgets, space adventures and witty humour.
Rick and Morty
14-year old Morty follows along his grandpa Rick on multidimensional adventures with the portal gun RIck invented. They travel through time and space, meeting all sorts of characters, sometimes allies and other times enemies. Sometimes it’s the duo themselves ruining a whole dimension and having to narrowly escape it.
What starts out as a parodical comedy on sci-fi tropes soon unravel into a more dramatic theme as the series goes along. It explores heavy themes within family relations, the sense of belonging and existential dread.
The Orville
Captain Ed Mercer and his crew work alongside each other on the exploratory spaceship, The Orville. The crew consisting of several species from across the galaxy navigate and explore different planets and parts of the universe. At the same time they try to navigate interpersonal relationships as they all work together onboard the ship.
Taking huge inspiration from sci-fi shows likeStar Trekand movies like Star Wars, The Orville is more comedy centered while simultaneously being able to delve deep into the characters' stories.
Inside Job
At Cognito Inc, part of the American shadow government, the employees are busy everyday trying to keep conspiracy theories just that, theories. But in actuality they’re all true, the mothman, reptilian people and a whole bunch of other conspiracy secrets are kept safe, especially by the work team led by robotics engineer Reagan Ridley.
With its satirical humour Inside Job makes you wonder if the American government really would hide all these secrets and if their employees' whacky adventures are happening right now. In the midst of episodes about the Illuminati and Keanu Reeves being a vampire the show also has a lot of heart to show with it’s characters relationship dynamics.
Resident Alien
An alien hides amongst humans pretending to be a small town doctor after crash landing on Earth. However he had a real mission coming to Earth, to wipe out all of humanity. But after meeting the mayor's son who can somehow see through his disguise and learning to live with the humans, the alien starts to struggle with the moral dilemma of his primary mission and his growing affection for human kind.
Resident Alien tells an intricate story of an outsider trying to fit in while also struggling with expectations already set for him. It’s also a comical sci-fi story set in everyday life on Earth.
