10 Underrated Movie Superheroes Who Need To Get Well-Deserved Recognition

With the massive expanse of superhero movies at our fingertips, it can be difficult to remember all the best characters. Sure, you’ve got Ryan Reynolds’ Deadpool as a fave, maybe Robert Downey Jnr’s Iron Man, and Spider-Man, perhaps you’re a Tom Holland, Andrew Garfield, or Toby Maguire “best Spider-Man” devotee. But there are plenty of other superheroes out there that have got lost a little in the sands of time and deserve consideration for addition to an all-time great list.

Plus, if you feel you lean more towards ‘team underdog’ and appreciate they too are well-deserving of some recognition, you may also want to register at an online casino. You might be thinking, why? Well, you may be pleased to discover that there are loads of online slots with no deposit free spins available at hundreds of casinos on the ever-so-popular AussieBonuses website. What’s more, you’ll get to pay tribute to some of your favourite - and let’s face it - undervalued superheroes!

Let’s kick off the list with an old one but a good one, that might not have crossed your radar yet.

1. Hellboy

For those who enjoyed Deadpool, but haven’t yet watched 2004’s Hellboy, you’re in for a treat. The movie was directed by all-around genius Guillermo del Toro and stars Ron Perlman as Hellboy himself. It features the kind of humour you’d expect from Ryan Reynolds's character, so expect to be impressed.

2. Blade

Decades after the final chapter in the Blade trilogy, we got a glimpse again of Wesley Snipes's Blade in Deadpool 2. Blade is a vampire hunter who, brought to life by Snipes, gets up to some dark and mysterious action across the three chapters. The iconic rave scene from the first movie is enough to get anyone’s blood pumping.

3. Spider-Ham

What if Spiderman was a pig? Of course, we get to know the answer to that question in the form of Peter Porker in Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse. For those not well-versed in the comic book series, there was a title in the 80s featuring the one and only Spider-Ham. Funny, sassy, and snippy, Spider-Ham has a well-deserved place on our list

4. Luis (Ant-Man)

While Luis from Ant-Man isn’t what you’d usually call a superhero, he is definitely a superhero in our eyes, as Scott’s (Ant-Man) best friend slash jail mate. Brought to life by Michael Peña, Luis is a fun-loving, loyal sidekick who steals the scene many times in both Ant-Man and Ant-Man and the Wasp.

5. Tank Girl

If you haven’t yet checked out Tank Girl from the archives, this 1995 movie is well worth a watch. The cast includes Naomi Watts and Ice-T, but Lori Petty plays Tank Girl herself as a feminist badass. She and her crew are busy waging war against the Water Corporation, who have control of all the water on a futuristic desert Earth.

6. Carnage

The Yang to Venom’s Yin, Carnage is a fan favorite from the Venom series, with a big presence in Venom: Let There Be Carnage. In a similar predicament to Eddie/Veno, Cletus/Carnage is a man and beast story - but with a psycho serial killer at the helm. Played by Woody Harrelson, Carnage is a scream to watch.

7. Rorschach

Rorschach, from the Watchmen universe, is a character based on the Rorschach ink-blot test, of all things. Rorschach is played by Jackie Earle Haley and has a creepy-looking inkblot face. Worth a watch for this and the whole cast, this 2009 edition was directed by the infamous Zack Snyder.

8. Elektra

Another special surprise feature from Deadpool 2 was the reintroduction of Elektra, played by Jennifer Garner. Not seen since 2005’s Elektra movie, this reemergence sparked many fans to revisit the old flick. Garner gives a stellar performance, not surprising given her action and drama background at the time in the TV series, Alias.

9. Otto Octavius

Who can resist a bad guy superhero who has mechanical octopus arms to help him achieve his nefarious deeds? Otto Octavius, or Dr. Octopus, appeared in both Spider-Man 2 and Spider-Man: No Way Home, played by Alfred Molina, nailing the scary, twisted character. Dr. Octopus was a case of a good guy gone bad, which makes him all the more interesting and deep.

10. Green Goblin

Rounding out our list, in tenth place, is the Green Goblin. While the Green Goblin, or Norman Osborn, could’ve been a B- character played by anyone else, Willem Dafoe ensures that everyone is enraptured by his performance at all times. Considered one of the greats of the big screen, Dafoe brings his personal brand of magic to Green Goblin to win over new fans and delight old ones.
