Two new movie Premieres this Week
Another week has passed, and new movies have recently premiered. Two of these films are Kneecap and A Different Man, both comedies but from completely different subgenres. Kneecaprevolves around music and hip-hop and how the Irish language is fading, while A Different Man tells the story of a man who wants to become an actor, undergoes cosmetic surgery, and misses out on the role he was born to play.
These films are both dark comedies with excellent comic timing, addressing important topics ranging from drugs to body dysphoria.
Kneecap
Last week, the critic favorite Kneecap finally arrived. This dark comedy is set in Belfast in 2019, where a music teacher and two self-proclaimed lowlifes come together to form the chaotic hip-hop group Kneecap. They rap in Irish, which is a minority language in Ireland, and they become the faces of a growing civil rights movement. However, this doesn’t come without consequences—the bigger they get, the more people want to silence them.
This film has received great reviews from various newspapers, with critics praising how the film tells the story of the real Belfast-based band of the same name. In the movie, the band members play themselves, showcasing not only great comic timing but also their efforts to preserve their native language, rapping in Irish.
A Different Man – Sebastian Stan’s strange dramedy
Another addition to the film world is the dark dramedyA Different Man, starring Marvel star Sebastian Stan as Edward. This movie is about Edward, an aspiring actor who undergoes medical treatment to alter his appearance. However, his dream face soon becomes a nightmare as he loses the role he was meant to play and becomes obsessed with reclaiming what he lost.
The movie has received high ratings from various publications and is described as a film that shows that the grass isn’t always greener on the other side. In the movie, we see Sebastian Stan in a very different role than what some may be used to. Many may recognize him from the Marvel Universe, where he plays James Barnes, The Winter Soldier, a role he has held since 2014.
These films are well worth watching as they have high ratings on both IMDb and Rotten Tomatoes. Many newspapers have also given the films high marks and speak highly of them.
