Spotlight on the Aussie Icons Who Conquered Hollywood

Australians, those drawling, down-under darlings, with the fresh charm, are among some of our favourite stars in Hollywood. Despite being from an island on the opposite end of the world from the USA, and coming from a continent with a population total of around ⅔ of the population of California, there are still some rock-solid actors and actresses that have emerged from the southern continent and stolen our hearts over the years.

You probably already know of or have seen many of these actors in some of your favourite movies. Heck, you might’ve seen them on billboards across the globe, or even when playing an online casino game offering no deposit free spins bonus codes, like the ones AussieCodes.com offers daily. The point is, that these movie stars have managed to make a name for themselves not only down under, but across the globe.

With undeniable talent, crazy good looks, and a silver screen list that goes for days, here are our most respected Aussie-born Hollywood icons.

 1. Nicole Kidman

The original redhead, the face of Chanel No 5, Tom Cruise’s ex-wife, and Keith Urban’s current wife, Nicole Kidman is one of the best-known Aussies in Hollywood. Nicole’s career started in Australia in the early 1980s, before meeting Tom Cruise on the set of Days of Thunder - which is when her star began to truly rise. Nic currently pulls in double-digit millions for movie appearances, making her a top called-for talent in the industry.

 2. Chris Hemsworth

The beefy blonde Aussie behind Thor, Chris Hemsworth, comes in at number 2 on our list. A certified heartthrob, a wink, and a smile from Chris can be enough to make a grown woman pass out. Beyond his Aussie charm and good looks, Chris is versatile as an actor, tapped for action movies, romances, and even comedy, at times.

 3. Liam Hemsworth

What is a Chris Hemsworth on this list, without a Liam, too? While Liam’s star is a little smaller than his brother Chris’s, his new turn as Geralt in The Witcher has got tongues wagging and juices flowing yet again. Liam is known as the more serious of the brothers, or perhaps just a little more shy.

 4. Hugh Jackman

Mr Wolverine himself was always going to make it on our list. Hugh Jackman, a man who seems both timeless and not really that Aussie, has been a huge presence on both the stage and the screen over the past 30-odd years. While Australians might be sad that they lost Hugh to the Big Smoke, Hollywood is more than happy to have snapped him up.

 5. Jacob Elordi

Jacob Elordi’s breakout role in The Kissing Booth in 2018, a smash hit on Netflix, quickly cemented his status as a new leading romcom man, at the age of 19, after moving to the US to become an actor. At the same time, his star was rising even further as a central character on the HBO series Euphoria, starring alongside megastar Zendaya. Jacob has a ton of TV and movie projects to be released in the near future so you can expect to keep seeing a lot more of him.

 6. Cate Blanchett

Cate Blanchett, whether she is Australian-born or not, simply oozes that old Hollywood glam style that we still love to see today. Cate is known for bringing powerful performances to the big screen, even when the movie itself is a bit of a flop (see: 2024’s Borderlands). Watch out for Cate next in Black Bag.

7. Margot Robbie

Ever since those scenes in The Wolf of Wall Street, no one has been able to forget Margot Robbie. And after the dizzying array of Barbie-based outfits Margot showed off all around the world during the promo period for the Barbie movie, you can be sure that any producer and director would be happy to hire her - you know that girl is putting in all the work. What do the Aussies all say? Better a role on Neighbours or Home and Away than anything, but better to get out of Summer Bay and head for the Hollywood Hills?
