Five chilling horror films to watch this autumn

As November nights stretch out longer and that familiar chill starts nipping at your skin, nothing beats the rush of a really good horror movie that makes your heart pound. This year's been incredible for scary movies – the kind that'll have you peeking around corners and maybe leaving a light on when you go to bed.
The Conjuring: Last Rites
Ed and Lorraine Warren have handled countless supernatural cases, but this time the entities they're dealing with have crossed a dangerous line by targeting their own family. Lorraine finds herself experiencing visions that are far more intense and disturbing than anything in her previous investigations. Vera Farmiga captures that raw terror of someone who realizes she's in over her head. Ed watches helplessly as the woman he's devoted his life to becomes the target of forces he can't protect her from using conventional methods.
28 Years Later
Imagine Britain, nearly three decades after the rage virus, where survivors have built fragile communities among the ruins. But the infected aren't gone – they've evolved, adapted, become something far worse than mindless killers. When a new outbreak threatens to finish what the virus started, you'll find yourself holding your breath as ordinary people make impossible choices. The film doesn't just show you horror – it makes you feel the weight of surviving when humanity itself hangs by a thread.
Weapons
Weapons will shatter everything you think you know about missing children cases. When an entire class of kids vanishes simultaneously at exactly 9:47 PM, leaving behind only cryptic drawings and one terrified survivor, the investigation uncovers something that defies all logic. Zach Cregger masterfully builds dread through the smallest details, a child's abandoned shoe, a teacher's desperate 911 call, security footage that shows... nothing.
Sinners
These twin brothers come back to their small Mississippi town in the 1930s thinking they can start over, but turns out you can't just run away from your problems. Ryan Coogler made this movie where the supernatural stuff is scary, but what's really terrifying is watching these guys deal with all the baggage they brought home with them.
Bring Her Back
When their father passes away, these step-siblings get placed with a foster mother who appears caring and normal on the surface. Something doesn't feel right though, and as they explore their new home, they uncover the disturbing truth – she's been performing dark rituals to resurrect the dead. Sally Hawkins plays the foster mom and she's completely terrifying – you can see how losing someone has driven her completely insane.
Enjoy horror this autumn
Turn down the lights, find someone who won't bail on you halfway through (trust me, you're going to need company), and get ready for some seriously sleepless nights.
