Peter Colt is a low-ranking tennis star whose misfortune on the court is only matched by his extremely bad luck in love. His life is transformed, however, when he is chosen as a wildcard to play at Wimbledon and, while there, meets and falls in love with a young American on the women's circuit. Their love match spurs him on to reach the final - but will his good fortune hold out long enough for him to lift the trophy?
