The Thin Controller is off to a meeting and leaves Peter Sam in charge of the narrow gauge railway for the very first time. Before he goes, he tells him not to bother Victor with anything trivial when he arrives to make his weekly repair visit. So when Sir Handel starts creaking and croaking, Skarloey's funnel belches black smoke and Duncan's rods rattle, Peter Sam tries to fix all the engines himself.
