Breaking a Fortified Line

A look at the most feared aspect of warfare, when a commander and his forces have to break through a defensive line. The first of two case studies is the US Army's assault under General Pershing on the Hindenburg Line in 1918 and the second is the Battle of El Alamein in 1942, when British forces under General Montgomery broke through against Rommel's Afrika Korps.
